Learning to apply contact lenses requires patience and persistence. Contact lenses can prove to be very useful in instances where you cannot or do not want to wear glasses. However, learning to comfortably apply and wear your contact lenses will take some adjustment. It can take up to two weeks or more to become accustomed to wearing contact lenses, depending on the type of lenses and your level of eye sensitivity. In addition, placing contacts in your eyes may seem difficult at first and may result in several unsuccessful attempts. However, with continued practice, you will become adept at applying and removing your lenses.

Wash your hands thoroughly with hot water and a soap that is made without perfume or oil. Use a lint-free towel to completely dry your hands.
2
Carefully open your lens case. Use the tip of your forefinger to gently remove the contact lens. Avoid using your fingernails.
3
Place the lens on the tip of your forefinger. Examine it for any dust, nicks or tears. Discard the lens if it is damaged.
4
Make sure the lens is not turned inside-out. First, look at the rim of the lens and verify that it has a naturally curved shape like that of a bowl. Then, gently squeeze the lens between your thumb and forefinger and make sure that it curves inward rather than outward.
5
Balance the lens on your forefinger. Place the middle finger of the same hand above the eyelashes of your lower eyelid. Use the finger to pull the lid and lashes down.
6
Place the forefinger or middle finger of the opposite hand under the eyelashes of your upper lid. Use the finger to pull the lid and lashes up.
7
Guide the lens onto your eye. Gently pull your finger away from the lens. Check to make sure the lens is no longer on your finger.
8
Blink your eye until the lens is centered. Close your eye and gently massage the lens into place if it does not center on its own. Alternatively, open your eye and use your forefinger to gently move the lens in place.
9
Repeat the process to apply the opposite lens.
Develop a habit of always applying your lenses in the same order.
Fill your contact lens case with new solution after each use.
Replace your contact lenses as directed by your physician.
Do not use lotions or perfumes on your hands before applying your contact lenses.
Do not attempt to wet or disinfect your contact lenses by placing them in your mouth.
