Aspheric Lenses are Lenses which do not have the typical shape that the normal lenses have and thus allow less material to be required to make the lens, making the lens lighter and flatter. These will not improve the quality of sight, but instead maintain quality at a thinner, flatter lens shape. Double Aspheric Lenses are lenses which have the different shape on both sides of the lens instead of one just one side of the lens.
These lenses are still the same as other types of lenses however. They will still have different levels of index and can have many different treatments to make them more beneficial to the wearer. For example it is possible to add anti UV coating to name just one. Opticians will often see what is most beneficial for you as a wearer by asking many questions and seeing what is most suitable. Often certain professions, lifestyles or prescriptions will require specific adjustments to ensure that the eye is not being damaged or hurting itself. For example thicker fronted Aspheric Lenses are often recommended for those with strong Astigmatism who still require two Vision Corrections in one lens, i.e. Bi/Varifocal Lenses.
Aspheric Lenses have many advantages. Because the lens is able to be much thinner and flatter, the appearance of your eye through the glass can be much more attractive. Instead of a small distorted eye that can see with very thick glasses, your eyes can be much more normally views. Double Aspheric Lenses have even more advantages than just Aspheric. As the effect is on both sides of the lens, distortion to your eyes as they are viewed by everyone else is reduced even more. Your ability to see is also improved as you now have a much higher quality of vision with far less distortion as Double Aspheric Lenses have a very large focal point. Often, many people have found that these lenses are more durable and less easy to break when dropped or twisted.
This type of lens generally has the same problems as the High Index lens. Firstly, there is increased reflection off the surface of the lens and thus an Anti-Reflective coat must be applied which has the added benefit of making the eye itself look smaller. Secondly, the Abbe Number will be lower increasing colour blurring around an object but the extent of this is often negligible and depends on the wearer themselves.

That's cool that they've made a lens that still fixes your eyesight without compromising how you look. It seems that aspheric or double aspheric lenses are more cosmetically pleasing. I think a lot of kids with thick glasses will be liking the fact that they can get thinner lenses now! http://www.mathewsoptical.com
