Why Some People Can't Use Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are an alternative to eyeglasses that can correct almost all vision problems. However, some people with certain eye conditions may not be able to wear contact lenses.
Several types of contact lenses are available on the market, the most popular being soft lenses and gas permeable lenses. Lenses are designed in four different ways: spherical, toric, bifocal and orthokeratology. The combination of the types of lenses with the designs make it possible for almost anyone to wear contact lenses.

You may not be able to wear contacts due to irritation from the lens composition. Other possible causes include an incorrect prescription. A visit to the optometrist can identify and usually solve the problem. Additionally, lens wearers may need to discontinue using contacts if they begin to experience symptoms such as eye discharge, blurred vision or other problems.
If you are having trouble with contact lenses, consider altering the frequency with which you change the lenses. For example, if you currently wear yearly lenses, ask your doctor to change the prescription to monthly disposables or even daily disposables. You may also benefit from changing your saline solution or using an enzyme remover. Unless instructed otherwise, always remove your contact lenses nightly and dispose of them as instructed. Failing to do so can result an eye infection or even loss of vision.
