Eye Care for Good Vision

Eyes are one of the most sensitive organs of the body and need good care throughout our lives. Unfortunately we begin to think of eye care only when we begin to encounter some problems like unclear vision, grittiness, red eyes and pain. Though such problems are best handled by an eye doctor you can do a lot to prevent eye problems through a regular eye care regime.

Eye care regime doesn't mean following a rigorous routine, in fact it is simply following common sense ideas that protect your eyes from harm. Most of us are aware that we should be wearing sunglasses to protect them when we move out in the sun, but few of us rarely remember to wear them. For those people whose occupation is hazardous for their eyes such as welding, it is imperative that they wear proper protective gear like welding goggles to keep them safe. People in sports should again use protective equipment to keep their eyes safe from any kind of injury.

Today using computers have become an integral part of work and eye problems are common for those who spend a lot of time in front of the computer. Certain precautions can go a long way in preventing any kind of eye problems. First of all blink regularly and take short breaks. Try to keep your monitor at least two feet away from your eyes and use anti-glare glasses or have an anti-glare installed on the monitor. If dry eyes is a problem then use lubricating eye drops regularly.

Another simple way for maintaining healthy eyes is having a diet which is rich in essential nutrients like Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin E. Vitamin A is found in a wide array of foods like dairy products, yellow and orange fruits and vegetables, liver and so on. Vitamin C is easily got from citrus fruits, broccoli while Vitamin E is found in nuts and seeds. Zinc and selenium are also considered good for the eyes.

It is very difficult to reverse the damage that has been wrought on eyes and the best way is timely intervention before the damage becomes irreversible. If you are facing problems in reading from a book or in clearly seeing things at a distance it is better to have your eyes tested at once before the vision deteriorates further. Any kind of inflammation of the eyes or blurred vision should be examined by a doctor at once so that it doesn't leave any permanent damage. Those people who have diabetes or are taking steroids should also have regular checkups to rule out any problems in the eye.

Many people lose their vision because of accidents that could have been avoided by following good eye care practices. Always supervise children when playing with fireworks as this is a common reason for eye injury. As far as possible don't let pointed things in your child's hands as they can damage either their own or someone else's eyes unknowingly.

A number of techniques have evolved over the years that can help to maintain good vision, however good eye care remains basic to healthy eyes.

What Is a Vision Therapy Program?

Vision therapy, sometimes called vision training, is a supervised and individualized treatment program designed to correct, improve and/or enhance visual efficiency problems, visual-motor and/or perceptual-cognitive deficiencies.

The program is similar to physical therapy and occupational therapy. Both of these therapies, like most therapies, are based on the idea of neuroplasticity, or the brain's ability to make changes and then begin to use the new neural pathways. Therapy activities and exercises are customized to meet the needs of each individual.

These exercises are supervised by developmental optometrists and trained vision therapists. When performed in an office setting, the activities include therapeutic lenses, prism lenses, optical filters, and eye patches in addition to specific exercises involving eye teaming, focusing, eye movements, balance and visual processing information. Programs generally take anywhere from six months to a year depending on the diagnosis with lifelong results.

The exercises engage the entire visual system which includes eyes, brain and body. An efficient visual system is comprised of accurate binocularity (eye teaming), efficient eye tracking, focusing, visual perception, eye-hand coordination and visual motor integration.

The visual system is a key factor in how we process information and plays a crucial role in how we learn. Understanding and making sense of what we see so that we have accurate output is what visual processing is all about. In vision therapy, we acquire skills to improve visual function; over eighty percent of the information that is acquired in a classroom setting comes through visual pathways, so having a strong and efficient visual system is essential to learning.

This program is also an effective non-surgical treatment for strabismus (misalignment of eyes) and many other visual problems including convergence insufficiency (an eye teaming problem that can cause learning problems), amblyopia (sometimes called lazy eye), and double vision. A recent study conducted by the National Eye Institute concluded that the most successful vision therapy model for individuals with a diagnosis of convergence insufficiency is that in which weekly office visits combined with exercises done at home between visits is most beneficial.

Many symptoms associated with reading problems, such as skipping lines, eye-strain and discomfort, losing your place while reading, poor reading comprehension, unusual head tilt or posture when reading or writing, or headaches after intense reading can be reduced or alleviated by doing specific vision training activities. Vision therapy is not about making eye muscles stronger or seeing more clearly. The muscles surrounding our eyes and controlling the lens of our eyes are already strong! These exercises help the patient learn to use their visual system in new or more effective ways.

The goal of this therapy is to alleviate the symptoms of vision issues and enhance visual performance and comfort. Commitment and consistency to a vision training program is crucial to an individual's overall success. Countless patients have expressed improved quality of life as a result of this program.

Lasik Eye Surgery - Relief for Vision Problems

The slow loss of your vision can be a hugely depressing event. You really start to feel your age even if it starts to go when you are relatively young. Fortunately, there is an excellent chance that Lasik eye surgery can return your vision to normal.

What Is It?

Lasik eye surgery is a medical procedure in which a laser is used to fix physical problems in the eye structure. Lasik is actually an abbreviation for the medical name of the surgery which is "Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis". The procedure has become the single most popular vision correction surgery currently performed in the United States.

Refractive Surgery

Lasik eye surgery is a form of refractive surgery. This type of surgery focuses on reshaping the cornea element in the eye. The cornea is a round shaped, clear tissue located at the front of the eye. The goal of the surgery is to reshape the curvature of the cornea. In doing so, the images that pass through the cornea can be refocused onto the proper area of the back of the eye where the brain can process them through the optical nerve.

Vision Problems

When we develop vision problems, we don't all develop the same type of difficulties seeing. Some of us will have problems seeing things close to us while others will have problems seeing things farther way. The wonderful thing about Lasik eye surgery is that it is able to be used to treat any vision problem that arises from an issue with the cornea. This means it is a potential solution for issues such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and even presbyopia. Presbyopia refers to an age-related problem where your eyes lose the flexibility needed to change focus when looking at something close to you. Regardless, Lasik can produce excellent results when it comes to remedying these problems. The vision of the patient can be returned to 20/25 in eighty percent of the cases. This means you no longer have a need for glasses or contact lens - a happy day indeed!

The Process

The surgical process is surprisingly simple. Initially, you will go into the office to have your eyes examined as part of a consultation. From there, the physician will develop a plan for the surgical procedure and apprise you of the potential results. Once you choose to go forward with the surgery, you will return to the office at a preset time. You then simply walk back into the surgical room and take a seat. The physician will then ask you to look at some object on the far wall and tell him or her what you see. Since you have vision problems, usually you cannot see anything other than an indistinct, blurry object.

At this point, you lay down on the surgical platform. Your doctor will then numb your eyes with liquid anesthesia. They will then start to apply the laser in short bursts to the target areas of your cornea. The laser will actually remove tiny amounts of the cornea as it slowly reshapes it into the desired angle. Once the goal is reached, the doctor will repeat the process on the other eye.

The entire surgery will take between 10 and 15 minutes. You'll then be asked to sit up and look at the object on the far wall that you were unable to identify before the surgery. There will be instant gratification when you realize that you can not only see the object, but see the finest details of it. Congratulations, your vision is fixed.

For those of us who were forced to wear glasses or contact lens for years, Lasik eye surgery has been a medical miracle. The sheer joy of having clear vision again is something that simply cannot be underrated.

What You Need to Know About Vision Care

The eyes are one of the most vital parts of the body. It allows you to do your daily tasks - drive to work, shop for supplies, and read books. Sadly, many people only start to care for their eyes only when they have issues on their vision. Care for the eyes is essential and this article will help you understand this.

What is an optometrist?

Optometrists are professionals specializing in eye care. They conduct eye testing to detect abnormalities or diseases of the eye. They are also experts in the application of eyeglasses and contact lenses to solve different eye ailments. They also analyse the condition of the two eyes to know what causes a patient's eye problem.

When should you visit an optometrist?

Eye aliments and disorders come with various symptoms. Blurred vision is one of the most common signs that you need to get immediate attention from an eye expert. When you can't see well from a distance and you have difficulty in reading even with your glasses on, you better get your eyes tested.

Other symptoms may lead to more serious problems. These include double vision and headaches when reading a book or using a computer. In some cases, patients can also experience confusion on colours and glare even in normal lights. Once you experience these issues, visit your optometrist and get a standard eye test.

What is a standard eye test?

Many people think that a standard eye test is a less thorough examination of the eyes. A standard eye test is actually a quality examination allowing a comprehensive assessment of a patient's vision. Optometrists suggest eye testing every two years. This is to detect any eye conditions that may lead to more serious problems such as macular degeneration and even blindness.

Some common eye conditions a standard eye test can detect are myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, presbyopia, cataract, and glaucoma.

Vision Care Tips

Wear sunglasses when you are outdoors. Even if it is overcast, you still have to protect your eyes from UV radiation that is very harmful. Choosing the proper shade helps ensure maximum protection. You may also get an anti-reflective coating on your glasses. It can help prevent glare and lens reflection.

A balanced diet is also an important aspect of eye health. Foods that are rich in anti-oxidants and omega oils can prevent dry eyes and macular degeneration in older people. Drink plenty of water as well.

Give your eyes a break especially if you do certain non-varied activities such as writing using your computer. Rest your eyes for two to three minutes after every 45 - 60 minutes. Blinking often helps maintain moisture in the eyes and avoid excessive dryness and irritation.

Not all eye ailments show symptoms right away. This is why you must visit your optometrist at least every two years. This is the best way to save you from costly treatments. Start searching for your optometrist online. It is never too late to get an eye test or a perhaps get a vision care insurance.

Improving Your Vision the Natural Way

Over the past decade there has been a large increase in the number of people across the world that need to wear glasses or contact lenses. This drastic change can be attributed to the increased amount of hours that people spend in front of the computer, both at home and at work, and in front of the television. Even with health insurance, contact lenses and glasses are not cheap. Laser corrective surgery is another option to correct vision impairment, but it will cost you a pretty penny. Many people are unaware that studies have shown wearing corrective lenses and glasses can actually worsen your vision over time! This doesn't have to be the case; there are indeed natural ways to improve your eyesight.

Most people do not realize that their visual abnormalities can change over time, and their eyesight actually varies regularly throughout the day due to changing conditions. One of the most overlooked flaws with glasses and contacts is that they provide an unchanging consistent correction for an eye problem that is constantly changing. In most cases, after you begin wearing glasses and contacts, the degree of correction has to be steadily increased as your eyes adjust to the lens strength over time. Essentially, your vision progressively decreases while the strength of your prescription increases with time.

Many people who have dealt with the inconvenience of glasses and contacts have undoubtedly considered corrective laser surgery. Even the latest laser technology does not usually recover perfect 20/20 vision. Even if the surgery produces amazing results immediately, the long-term outlook is not that great. Usually, 6 months after the surgery has been completed, the improvement in vision has diminished leaving many people finding that they need glasses for such tasks as reading or driving at night. Recent studies have also raised further questions as to the safety and the efficacy of corrective laser surgery for improving one's sight.

As stated before, there is no need to go through the trouble and inconvenience of glasses, contacts, and surgery. There are natural ways to help increase your vision. Like many of our other muscles and body parts, our eyes need regular exercise in order to be healthy and fit. Blinking, focusing exercises, eye movement training, and other do-it-yourself techniques can all help improve your sight without the need of doctor intervention. Improving your diet to include foods that directly relate to the health of your eyes is another great way to help improve your vision. There are many great strategies and techniques that have been studied and made available to the public. If you are tired of cleaning your glasses every day, or dealing with dry eyes caused by contact lenses, then do your research to find natural ways to get back arguably one of your most important senses that you use on a daily basis.

How Vision Problems Can Affect Elderly Drivers

Thanks to advances in modern medicine, the average person is living longer than ever before, which means there are more older drivers on the road. But if you are over 60, your eyesight probably is not as good as it once was. Age-related vision changes that commonly affect senior drivers include: decreased ability to clearly see road signs and/or objects up close, like the instrument panel or road maps; changes in color perception; difficulty judging distances and speed; slower reaction times; loss of peripheral vision; problems seeing in low light or nighttime conditions; and difficulty adjusting to glare from oncoming headlights or the sun.

While these changes don't mean you have to turn in your car keys and give up your freedom, there are some simple things you can do to stay as safe as possible on the road.

Almost half of all collisions involving older drivers occur at intersections, and are commonly due to a failure to yield, especially when making a left turn. Peripheral vision decreases as we age, so turning your head and looking both ways before proceeding into an intersection will increase your vision range.
Reduce your speed, particularly when driving at night. As we age, our pupils don't dilate as quickly in the dark, which means you may have more trouble seeing at night, or you will be temporarily blinded by the glare of oncoming headlights. Whenever possible, limit your driving to daylight hours, and avoid driving on unfamiliar roads.
It's a good idea for seniors to take a driving course designed specifically for older drivers. These courses describe the physical changes that may affect driving ability as we age, and how to compensate for them. They are typically offered by the American Association of Retired Persons, driving schools, or adult education programs.
Anyone over the age of 60 should have a regular eye exam at least every two years (more often if you have certain eye conditions or other health issues which may affect eyesight). Annual exams will ensure your prescription is up to date, as well as provide early detection of developing eye problems that could affect your driving.
Avoid wearing glasses with wide frames or temples, which may restrict side vision. Ask your eye doctor about special eyeglasses, such as those with anti-reflective coatings, which can cut down on glare, or lenses developed with wavefront technology, which may reduce halos, starbursts, and glare.
Finally, as a senior driver, it's important to know your limitations. Consider limiting your driving to shorter trips during daylight hours, and leave the late-night driving duties to someone else. Leave more distance between yourself and other drivers to compensate for the decrease in reaction time.

What are you doing to preserve your ability to drive through your golden years? If you had to stop driving because of poor vision or other reasons, how would you get around without a car?

Lasik - A Good Alternative for Clearer Vision

If you find wearing eyeglasses or contact lenses cumbersome, lasik is an effective way of correcting vision problems and giving you the freedom to perform certain activities like swimming and other active sports without the limitations that glasses present. Furthermore, you need not worry about broken or damaged glasses that need regular replacement.

Lasik (laser in situ keratomileusis) is a procedure that uses a highly specialized laser to correct refractive errors and improve vision. Refractive errors like short sight, long sight and astigmatism occur when the shape of the eyeball affects the way the cornea (the transparent front part of the eye) focuses images on the retina. The procedure corrects these errors by altering the thickness of the cornea.

This quick and safe surgical procedure involves cutting a thin hinged flap on the cornea, which the surgeon pulls back and applies the excimer laser on the cornea for about 20 seconds to reshape (ablate) it. The area is then dried out and the flap placed back in position. Suturing is unnecessary because the flap bonds securely in position. The treatment involves the use the excimer laser using different ablations. These include conventional laser, Wavefront-guided treatment and Wavefront-optimized treatment.

It is important to note that not everyone is a suitable candidate for Lasik surgery. An eye specialist conducts a thorough eye examination on patients to determine if they are fit to undergo the surgery. You are unsuitable for this procedure if your refractive error has been improving in the past year or if you have certain medical conditions like lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

Patients under 18 years of age as well as those with keratoconous are considered unsuitable for Lasik. The thickness of the cornea is also measured to establish the amount of ablation needed in order to correct the refractive error. Therefore, if your cornea is too thin, the doctor will not recommended the procedure because it would cause further weakening of the cornea. If you suffer from excessive eye dryness, have an abnormal corneal curvature or have had previous refractive surgery, your doctor will recommend other treatment options.

Generally, most people who undergo Lasik report improved vision. The results may not always be 100% perfect, but Lasik can correct most refractive errors with precise, accurate results. The actual surgery is painless and quick (it takes about 10 minutes).

Even though Lasik is generally effective, patients need to have realistic expectations because there are no guarantees. In addition, slight complications may arise, though they are rare. Before undergoing surgery, be aware that you may still need to wear low prescription glasses or contacts after surgery. Some patients, especially those with far sightedness may experience regression several years after Lasik surgery. Therefore, the results may not be permanent and you may need additional surgery later on. One of the common post-surgery effects of Lasik is dry eyes. In some cases, the condition worsens and causes redness and burning sensation in the eyes. However, medication can help to treat the symptoms.

Choosing lasik surgery is an important decision that requires you to be prepared and well-informed. Talk to your doctor for any clarifications that you may need and read as much as possible about the procedure before making your decision.

Winter Lighting for Low Vision

In winter, daylight hours are considerably reduced, and even during the day the low sun and cloud cover reduces available light, especially indoors.

The lower levels of light can make reading and close tasks more difficult, especially for older people and those with existing vision problems. As we get older the amount of light entering the eye is reduced and we need more light to help the eyes to function as well as they can.

Extra light can help with tasks like reading, writing, sewing, knitting and hobbies. In general, lighting for these sorts of activities should be as close as possible without blocking your view, and be flexible enough to direct exactly where you need it most.

While ordinary ceiling lights and table lamps are fine for general room lighting, for task lighting it is better to have a lamp specifically suited for the task.

Some Types of Task Lighting

Simple adjustable tabletop task lamps are the most common type, and provide adjustable lighting that allows the light position to be moved to suit your needs. They come in a wide variety of designs, but need to be able to create a strong directional light that can be angled easily.

Floor standing lamps mean you do not need to have a table of the correct height, so are potentially more flexible for locating, although they can be heavy. Unlike standard lamps, floor standing task lights usually have at least one adjustable arm so the light can be directed correctly.

Some floor standing lamps have an additional arm with a magnifying lens attached. This is ideal for close or intricate work, or for those with low vision. It allows for maximum visibility, but leaves both hands free.

Battery powered lamps give much more flexibility in positioning, and can easily be taken with you while travelling, for hospital stays, visiting friends and family or just as you move from room to room. Some use built in rechargeable batteries which can be cost effective, while others use the standard disposable batteries.

Hand held lights are designed to produce a strong white light for occasional tasks, like reading labels and prices, and are small enough to be slipped into a pocket or purse. For small text, of course, a hand magnifier with a built in light may be a better option.

Bookstand lights are especially for those who enjoy reading, but find low light levels strain their eyes and can also be helpful for holding recipes and instructions. By mounting a light directly above a bookstand, it is directed exactly where it's needed without getting in the way.

Types of Bulbs for Task Lighting

Task lights come with different bulb types, such as traditional incandescent bulbs, halogen bulbs, CFL tubes or LED Bulbs.

Most new task lights tend to use CFL or LED bulbs as these are much more energy efficient. They also produce a white light that is closer to daylight colour, leading to less strain on the eyes during extended use, such as reading.

Top 5 Exercises For Improving Eye Vision

These are the top 5 exercises for improving eye vision, often recommended to patients by their opticians. They are simple and quick exercises. You do not have to do all five exercises at the same time you can fit them into your busy schedule when it is convenient for you.

Even if you are lucky enough to have perfect eye sight and do not need glasses or contact lenses these exercises help to keep your vision in top condition. These exercises are intended to refresh and relax your eyes. Eliminating eye strain helps to improve your vision.

Blinking is something that you may do without really being aware of it. In this exercise, you need to consciously control your blinking. Sitting comfortably, you should blink every 3-4 seconds for a period of two minutes. Do your eyes feel tired, relaxed or strained after this exercise. Now you need to spend the next two minutes, concentrating on not blinking. Note the difference in how your eyes feel.

The second exercise referred to as palming is especially beneficial for those who sit at a computer screen for extended periods. Lean forward and put your elbows on your desk or knees. Place your cupped palm over your closed eyes. Make sure you do not put any pressure on your eyelids with your palms, and that you can blink freely for a couple of minutes. This helps to refresh around your eyes, while resting them and your mind for a few minutes.

The third exercise is referred to as a figure of eight. It helps to improve the flexibility of your eye muscles. Sitting comfortably, focus on a space about 10 feet in front of you. Visualize a figure of 8 sitting on its side and trace the outline slowly in one direction with your eyes. Once you have completed a circuit of the figure, do the same in the other direction.

The fourth exercise is referred to as near and far focusing. It will help to strengthen the eye muscles and your vision. You can do this exercise sitting or standing, and it only takes 2-3 minutes. Hold your thumb 10 inches in front of you. Focus on your thumb while taking a deep breath. On your next deep breathe focus on an object 10 to 20 feet in front of you. Switch your focus after each deep breath between your thumb and the object.

The final fifth exercise is referred to as zooming. This exercise is designed to strengthen your ability to focus and your eye muscles. Sitting comfortably, stretch your arm out as far as you can with your thumb sticking up the way. Concentrate and focus on your thumb for a few seconds. Keeping focused, gradually move your thumb until it is just 3 inches from your face. Return your thumb to the out-stretched position, repeating the exercise for a few minutes at a time.

Whether you wear glasses, contact lenses or have perfect eye sight, your vision is important. Practicing these top 5 exercises for improving eye vision regularly should prove well worth the time and effort. So start today and see the improvements for yourself.

Rules for Caring for Your Eyes and Vision

Think about the last time you went to the eye doctor - if it was over two years ago, you're like millions of other people who don't make their eyes a priority. By not taking care of your eyes, you could be harming them and creating an environment that could decrease their usability. Part of the problem with lack of eye care is that people are completely oblivious to the concept of taking care of their eyes. Lack of knowledge plays into it, as well. With the proper knowledge and the right set of rules, you could prolong the longevity of your vision. Here are a few simple rules that will help you care for your eyes and keep them healthy!

The first rule on the list is a big one for people who wear contact lenses: don't wear your contacts for long, extended periods of time! It seems like a no-brainer but your contact lenses need to come out every 12-hours, at maximum. They are not meant to be worn all day long and if debris (like dust) gets caught in the lens, it could damage your eye. Additionally, you should never sleep with your contacts in! Take them out each night before bed time and, once a week, give your eyes a rest and wear eyeglasses.

Another rule for keeping healthy eyes involves technology: don't spend long periods of time in front of your TV or computer without taking breaks. It causes your eyes to become strained, drained, and tired which will take a toll on your vision and even cause a headache. Every 45-minutes, take a tech-free break - even for just five minutes. If you're at work and you feel your eyes getting tired, go take a walk outside for 10 minutes or step away from your computer and do some stretches. Whatever you do, stay away from electronic devices long enough to rest your eyes.

Do you rub your eyes when you're tired? Think twice before doing so. Rubbing your eyes with dirty and unwashed hands only spreads germs which can result in eye problems like conjunctivitis. Instead, make sure your hands are properly washed with soap and hot water before you go near your eyes. If your eyes are feeling tired and you are prone to rubbing, take a warm, wet washcloth and place it over your eyes for two to three minutes. It'll revive your eyes and help you feel a bit more awake.

Sports fans and athletes know that it's very easy for their eyes to become damaged during a game or athletic activity. Wear protective sports goggles. Participating in a sport without the proper protective eyewear is a recipe for disaster! Why risk damaging your eyes when it's so easy to prevent eye injury?

The next rule involves your eye doctor: go for regular examinations! It seems like common sense but many people stick to seeing their eye doctor when something goes wrong. By that time, it may be too late so as a preventative step, visit your eye doctor once a year for regular eye exams.

The last rule should be quite obvious but you'd be surprised how many people do not follow this rule: wear your eyeglasses! Don't refrain from wearing your eye glasses because you think they'll make you look nerdy or less attractive! There's a wide variety of eyeglasses online with hundreds of styles, colors, shapes, and sizes. Do your eyes a favor, wear your eyeglasses frames as your doctor prescribed them! At the end of the day, prevention is easier than correction.

Better Vision With Eye Training Exercises

It seems like just about everybody wears contact lenses or glasses. Some people only wear glasses when they are reading, others need them when they are looking at things that are far away, but most people use them consistently to aid their vision. Many people are just resigned to the perceived fact that their vision was never perfect, and will only get worse. There is a line of belief, however, that states that not only is the degradation of vision over time not an absolute inevitability but that people who suffer from reduced vision capabilities can use eye training exercises to improve their vision and prevent worsening.

Eye Training Exercises

It is the thought that many who feel they are dependent on vision-improving aids such as glasses or contact lenses did not need them when they were prescribed and likely still do not need them. They simply have gotten so used to using the glasses or contact lenses as crutches that their eyes no longer need to function well and therefore their vision suffers. These people could benefit from the use of eye training exercises aimed at strengthening the muscles surrounding and in the actual eyes, as well as relieving strain that causes blurred or not precise vision. It is this strain, many such as preeminent voice in this field William Bates believe, that is the real cause of reduced visual capability. Performing some simple exercises daily can help to improve your vision and prevent it from worsening over time.

• Blinking is a behavior that happens without thought. This action lubricates the eyes as well as removing any foreign bodies and temporarily allows your eyes to rest. Performing this action many times in a short period is exactly the same as doing reps of conditioning or muscle-building exercises on any other part of the body. Blinking repeatedly strengthens the muscles in and around the eyes which allows them to function better.

• William Bates believed that strain was the main culprit behind poor vision. He advised patients to engage in "palming" several times daily. This action consists of closing your eyes and cupping your palms over them. Your hands should not put any pressure on the eyeballs but should prevent any light from getting to the eyes. This action allows your eyes and your mind to relax. This relieves the strain on your eyes, allowing them to focus and function better.

• Imagine a shape, such as a figure eight or a simple house, in the air in front of you. Without moving your neck or head, trace the shape with your eyes. Follow it first one way and then back the other.

• Focus on something several feet ahead of you. Without blinking, change your focus to something ten to twenty feet past that object. Change your focus several times until you feel your eye muscles working.

• Hold your hand in front of you and focus on it. Slowly move your hand toward you, maintaining the focus, until your palm touches your nose. Pause, still focusing, for a moment and then gradually pull your hand away. Do not allow the focus to break at any point. Do this several times throughout the day to improve muscles.

• Exercises to improve hand eye coordination can also help improve your vision as well. These include games such as sports-related video games that teach your eyes to cooperate with your brain.

Natural Vision Treatments

If your eyesight is faltering and you're looking for a cure, natural vision treatments are available. Think for a moment about how important your eyes are to you. Your eyes, as they say, are the windows to your soul. Not only that, they also enable you to behold all of the beauty that exists in the world. Having your eyesight is a precious gift, and the thought of losing it is understandably terrifying. Of course, there are clinical treatments available, but there are also natural remedies that are worth looking into. Let's discuss a few of those natural remedies, and perhaps you'll be able to discover something that is right up your alley.

Proper Diet

When it comes to improving the health of your eye, natural treatment options are quite diverse. One of that is particularly effective is that of maintaining a proper diet. One thing in particular that you want to be sure is true of your diet is that it is rich in antioxidants. This is because antioxidants have been proven to be very effective in preventing the particular type of degeneration that is common in people's eyes as the age. Also, it's a good idea to cook these antioxidant rich foods in olive oil. This enables your body to more readily absorb them. These types of foods include green leafy vegetables, eggs, and, of course, carrots.

What You Drink

When it comes to maintaining the health of your vision, what you drink can be almost as important as what you eat. Various kinds of herbal teas are ideal in maintaining the health of your eyes. For example, ginkgo biloba and eye bright increase the circulation of blood to your eyes which is great for your optic health. Other types of herbal teas, such as chrysanthemum tea and peppermint tea, are also very good for the eyes, because such teas contain a very high amount of what are called carotenoids. Carotenoids been conclusively proven to be extremely beneficial to the health of your eyesight.

Supplements

Another way to improve the health of your eyes is by utilizing nutritional supplements. Vitamin B is very effective, particularly in the form of what is known as pantothenic acid. Pantothenic acid typically is available in 300 mg tablets which dissolve under your tongue. Be careful, though, because pantothenic acid can also heighten your alertness. This means that if you take it close to bedtime, it may interfere with your sleeping habits. Whether you're using supplements, dietary changes, exercises, or any combination of the three, natural eye correction methods are very effective and very diverse.

A Review Of Sight And Vision Problems

Those that are studying to be able to give qualified advice in regards to eyeball health, such as Optometrists, and those that are specialising in the construction of remedial devices like an Optician need to know how the eyeball delivers vision. For those that are not specialising in such fields may also, however, find it useful to understand the eye functions as doing so may also clarify for what reason many people need glasses and lenses to see adequately.

The cornea is created from transparent tissue and is positioned in the very entrance of the eyeball. Whenever light shines all around us it is actually blurry and mixed up, yet to make it comprehendible the cornea's task is to concentrate that light prior to when it is available into the eye. This is done by means of muscles round the eye that draw and push the cornea similar to turning a magnifying glass under the sun in an attempt to get a focused ray.

The next that processes light is the iris, the black dot in the middle on the eye. The iris's function is to try to control the total amount of light exposure to your eye. When a bright light is shone into your eye the black dot should get smaller.

The retina is located on the back to the eyeball and receives the light once it has been correctly streamed and proportioned. It is the retina's purpose to transmit the light as an image to the brain. It is also extremely delicate and damage cannot be reversed. The retina can be hurt by too much light reaching it and thus wearing sunglasses and protective gear is important.

Now we can easily begin to have an understanding of a typical vision problem. One typical eye problem is Nearsightedness or Farsightedness, resulting from the cornea unable to bend light a correct manner. The mixture of solutions that Optometrists along with other eye doctors and eye specialists have created for this eye problem includes eyeglasses and lenses. These types of vision care instruments curve light and focus it just before it contacts the cornea, and then enabling the cornea's substandard refraction to flex light back again to perfect vision. Precisely what Optometrists and other eye doctors carry out every time they handle an eye test is to determine the amount of refraction required to compensate a faulty cornea. They then write a lenses prescription for glasses and lenses to an Optician, who's going to be in charge of making the correct contact lenses that can fix the patient's vision problem.

The arrival of recent equipment means it is easier to both identify troubles, such as being Nearsighted, as well as putting together the appropriate technologies for stopping these types of problems. Prior to now eyeglasses and lenses were rather expensive to buy for the reason that the condition was incompletely comprehended. At the moment a prescription could be given within some sort of personal scanning, this coordinated with other technologies able to buy lenses online, and as such vision disorders are very convenient to medicate.
